Shane Sarver Wins St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K
Race sets record with 840 participants
Gibsonia, Pa. - Aug. 4, 2007 - Shane Sarver, 20, of Freeport won the St. Barnabas Medical Center 5K Run/Walk today, Aug. 4, 2007, with a time of 15:33. Capturing first place in the women's division was Diana Filtz, 18 of Harrison City with a time of 18:49.
The event, held along Meridian Road, was co-sponsored by TRACO. UPMC Health Plan was the course sponsor. Proceeds from the 5K benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund, which assists patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas who otherwise would not be able to afford their care. Activities at the race included a performance by the Ray Ryan New Orleans Riverside band, an awards ceremony hosted by Scott Harbaugh of WPXI-TV and Shelley Duffy of KDKA radio, food, beverages and prize giveaways.
Both overall winners were crowned with Olympic-tradition laurel wreaths and presented with etched glass trophies. Sarver and Filtz joined a record-setting 840 runners and walkers who participated in the event.
The second place overall male finisher was Matthew Rudzki, 21, of Sharpsburg. His time was 16:23. Third place was Brendan Reilly, 19 of Sarver with a time of 16:30. The second place overall female finisher was Heather Melzer, 38, of Mars with a time of 19:23. The third place overall female finisher was Kristie Domis, 16, of Pittsburgh with a time of 19:46. All received trophies for their accomplishments.
Eighty-two more trophies were given to the top three winners in the 14 age categories in the men's and women's divisions. The winners for each category are:
