St. Barnabas to Bring Assisted Living to Richland Township
Construction to begin by 2009 on 16 suites of The Arbors at St. Barnabas
Gibsonia, Pa. - Nov. 24, 2008 - Soon, individuals who need assisted living will have yet another option from one of the region's most reputable senior care providers. By the beginning of 2009,
St. Barnabas Health System will begin construction on 16 assisted living suites on its main campus along Meridian Road, Richland Township. The suites will be ready for occupancy by Fall 2009 and will further expand St. Barnabas' many assisted living offerings, which are currently available in Valencia.
The suites will be located on the third floor of the health system's flagship building, St. Barnabas Nursing Home, and will be called The Arbors at St. Barnabas. The décor of the assisted living floor will be elegant and upscale. Each suite will have its own bathroom; kitchenette with stovetop, sink and refrigerator; washer/dryer unit; and security alert features. The floor will have a nurses' station/medication room, a dining room where three hot meals will be served daily, and a parlor for small gatherings.
"We're very excited to offer assisted living on our Gibsonia campus and strongly believe there is a need in the community for this service," said Shelly Jenkins, administrator of St. Barnabas Nursing Home. "The senior care industry is evolving. Increasingly, seniors are staying at nursing homes for shorter periods of time, often following an acute medical problem such as a fracture, stroke or surgery. Because of St. Barnabas' excellent medical care and rehabilitation therapy, our nursing home patients are discharged to a lesser level of care 74 percent of the time. Often, they're able to return to their own homes. When a person still needs support, assisted living is an ideal fit."
Residents of The Arbors at St. Barnabas will be assigned to one of four levels of care based upon their needs. Nurses and aides will be available to assist residents with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming and mobility. Three meals will be served daily. Medication distribution and medical monitoring will be available.
Arbors residents will also have access to all of St. Barnabas' services: physician visits, on-site rehab therapy, recreational therapy, worship services and more.
The first two floors of the three-story St. Barnabas Nursing Home will remain a 172-bed skilled nursing facility. The building's basement level includes a rehab therapy gym, recreation area and beauty parlor, which will be used by the new assisted living residents as well as skilled nursing patients.
The third floor space that will soon be The Arbors at St. Barnabas is currently used for offices, which will be moved elsewhere. The Arbors at St. Barnabas in Richland will be St. Barnabas' second assisted living facility. Currently, St. Barnabas operates an assisted living facility licensed for 182 beds in Valencia, also named The Arbors at St. Barnabas.
