St. Barnabas/Valencia Woods Installs Officers, Recognizes Volunteers


Gibsonia, Pa. - Feb. 2, 2006 - Dianne Whetsell of Coraopolis has been installed as president of the St. Barnabas/Valencia Woods Auxiliary. Whetsell has been the Special Events Assistant for St. Barnabas Charities since March 2004.

She will be responsible for leading the auxiliary, a group of 160 volunteers dedicated to working at charitable events and raising funds for the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. In 2005, the auxiliary raised $172,962 for the Free Care Fund, which supports poor and low-income patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas. Among the fund-raising events were golf tournaments, a fashion gala, bake sales, a treasure sale, 50/50 raffles and flower sales.

Also installed as auxiliary officers during a luncheon ceremony on Friday at The Village at St. Barnabas were: Dianne Whetsell of Coraopolis as president, Ramona Henderson of Moon Township as first vice president, and Elaine Shaffer of Tarentum as corresponding secretary. The new officers will serve a two-year term and are joined by officers currently serving the second of their two-year term: Nicki Hood of Richland Township as second vice president, Marti Taylor of Richland Township as recording secretary, and Fran Sheffler of Moon Township as treasurer.

The 10 volunteers who contributed the most amount of hours during 2005 were also recognized during Friday's ceremony. The volunteers helped at St. Barnabas Charities' fund-raising events, volunteered as ushers at the Kean Theatre, wrapped coins for the Pennies for Patients campaign, and assisted at PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS® headquarters. Recognized were:

Teddy Esler of The Woodlands at St. Barnabas, 67 hours
