Curtisville Primary Center to Kick Off Pennies for Patients Campaign
Students will collect pennies for St. Barnabas Charities

Gibsonia, Pa. - Feb. 20, 2006 - The students at Curtisville Primary Center, 1715 Saxonburg Blvd. in Tarentum, will kickoff the annual St. Barnabas Charities Pennies for Patients campaign with an assembly on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. The school creates a competition among the classrooms to see who can collect the most pennies and the winners receive prizes including a special party complete with a pizza lunch.

Curtisville began their participation with Pennies for Patients in 1998, as East Union Elementary, and has been a major participant for the past seven years collecting more than $23,100 under the leadership of Anna Marie Catanese, first grade teacher at Curtisville. Last year Curtisville presented St. Barnabas with the single largest donation, collecting a record-setting 404,412 pennies ($4,041.20).

The Pennies for Patients campaign is entering its ninth year and operates under the motto "Pennies do Count." The campaign encourages school children, families, business organizations and others to collect spare change for the needy patients at St. Barnabas Nursing Home, Valencia Woods at St. Barnabas and The Arbors at St. Barnabas. The Pennies for Patients campaign is part of St. Barnabas Charities' ongoing efforts to raise money for the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. In 2005 alone, the fund provided more than $6.29 million to St. Barnabas patients. The campaign kicked off in February as part of St. Barnabas Charities' yearlong fund-raising efforts and will aim to exceed last year's record of 2,317,080 pennies ($23,170.80) for the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund.
