ST. BARNABAS GOLF TOURNAMENT BREAKS FUND-RAISING RECORD
$115,431 raised in 23rd annual event at Butler Country Club
Gibsonia, Pa. - June 10, 2010 - A record-setting $115,431 was raised at the 23rd annual St. Barnabas Charitable Golf Open on Monday, June 7 at the Butler Country Club to benefit the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund. Winning the tournament's Bell Trophy was Geoff Smathers, Win Smathers, Crock Hunter and David Hunter.
Master of ceremonies at the tournament's dinner and awards banquet was Todd McDermott of WPXI-TV. Conducting the live auction was Jim Roddey, St. Barnabas spokesman and former Allegheny County chief executive. Troy Loney, the two-time Stanley Cup champion for the Pittsburgh Penguins, was the tournament's celebrity golfer.
The golf open was supported by 196 golfers, 25 sponsors and nearly 50 volunteers. In addition to supporting the cause through their registration fee, participants had the opportunity to support St. Barnabas by bidding on silent auction and live auction prizes, purchasing raffle tickets, competing in course competitions, and purchasing mulligans and tee busters. Golfers enjoyed playing 18 holes on one of Western Pennsylvania's premier courses and were provided with unlimited range balls, beverages on the course, snacks in their carts, a 19th hole reception, gourmet meals and an awards program in which winners received gift certificates to the club's pro shop.
