Michaela Gennuso of Peters Township Named Kean Idol Vocal Round 4 Winner
Talent contest continues through March 30
Gibsonia, Pa. - March 7, 2007 - Michaela Gennuso of Peters Township was named the winner of Vocal Round 4 in the 2007 Kean Idol Vocal and Dance Talent Contest held March 4 at the Kean Theatre. Michaela, 11, is the daughter of Anthony and Gail Gennuso and a fifth grader at Mount Lebanon Montessori School. In addition to singing, she enjoys piano, art and running. Michaela won her honors by being selected by a panel of four judges as one of nine acts to move on to the Kean Idol semi-final rounds. The audience of 200 supporters then voted on the semi-finalists, awarding Michaela the Round 4 title. Michaela sang "God Help the Outcasts" from Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."
Now in its fourth year, the goal of Kean Idol is to raise $20,000 for the St. Barnabas Free Care Fund while providing a fun singing and dancing competition for area residents. By the end of the contest, nearly 200 contestants will have taken to the Kean Theatre stage. Although there is no entry fee, each contestant is asked to sell 10 tickets. The contest is mirrored after the popular TV shows "American Idol" and "Dancing with the Stars." At the six Kean Idol vocal preliminary rounds, a panel of judges narrows the large pool of contestants down to eight semi-finalists who will advance to additional competition. The audience then votes on the semi-finalist they want to see named that round's winner.
Round 4 Semi-Finalists
Although eight acts are normally selected at each Kean Idol preliminary round, there was a tie at Round 4, so nine acts will compete in one of two semi-final rounds. Of the 20 acts performing in Round 4, these nine will move on:
Lisa Castor, 38, of Charleroi
Jason Chiusano, 23, of New Kensington
Alyssa Conjack, 18, of Freeport
Michaela Gennuso, 11, of Peters Township
